What are the 3 smallest gold coins?

I am new to gold coins, so sorry for the rather ignorant question. What are the three smallest denominations in pre-1933 U.S. Gold coins that are easy to get and plentiful?

$1.00, $2.50 (quarter eagle), & $3.00. The $3.00 coins are generally going to be more costly. If you discount the $3 coin then the next denomination up the ladder is a half eagle: $5.00, followed by eagles ($10.00), and double-eagles ($20.00)

There are different types of all the denominations except for the $3 coin.

You missed the $4 Stellas! :D Those will run VERY high though.

Punchy ... don't overlook the neighbours

A nice $1 twentith gets you started at .9999 instead of mucking about with inferior grades;)

Punchy ask for the smallest denomination coins that are plentiful and easy to get. I don't consider Stella's as plentiful and easy to get.

No doubt, that's why it was a tongue in cheek comment.

I like the 2 1/2 peso - you can actually see it!
16 of them are almost an ounce

Yup, I would look at these and the 5 pesos gold coins. These are slightly larger than a cent (19mm in diameter) and currently cost around 112FRN.

Mexican gold coins, even in uncirculated condition can be had for spot or below on eBay. I should know, I just picked up a 5 pesos for 109FRN today.

What about junk gold coins from Canada? I'm a little leery about bullion coins.

Canada is a small country population wise, older coins are Sovereigns and half Sovereigns, newer coins are in very short supply. If you want cheap but better known gold coins, you need to go south. Mexican Peso coins (gold) are your best bet. IMHO.:bear_w00t:

If you mean sovereigns minted in Canada, those are pretty hard to come by. The dollar coins $5 and $10 minted between 1912 and 1914 are collectors items.
